I know there’s value in learning about debate…thinking on your toes, research, finding truth or at least what you’re opinion is, etc. But what about a focus on learning how to hear an opposing viewpoint with the intent to understand, find common ground, really listen, etc.? This class is about 3 different wars. The North & South were great at debating. Imagine if we taught about these wars and their surrounding circumstances with the background of not just how to debate, but how to disagree better. Perhaps these scholars can grow to be the catalyst to learn from the past in a way that they don’t have to keep repeating it.
